About The MyEMCert

The MyEMCert is given to board certified emergency physicians every 10 years in order to maintain their certification. According to ABEM, "the MyEMCert will be the alternative assessment option for physicians to stay certified. Physicians who are eligible and select the MyEMCert option will not be required to take the ConCert Exam or LLSA tests."

Elements include:

  • Eight, topic-specific modules (e.g., abdominopelvic presentations)
  • Other content based on new advances in EM clinical practice
  • Remote access
  • Use of any resource (open book)
  • The assessments must be taken alone, without collaboration
  • 4 MyEMCert modules every 5 years
  • 1 IMP activity every 5 years
  • Medical license meeting ABEM policy

Maintaining your Certification with MyEMCert:

If your certification ends in 2022 or later you will have the option of maintaining your certification using MyEMCert. Under the MyEMCert track, you will need to:

  • Complete eight modules by the end of your certification period. If you have less than ten years remaining on your current certification when you decide to enter the MyEMCert track, you will have less time to complete the eight modules. (Ultimately, MyEMCert participants will have to complete four modules during their first five years of certification, and four modules in the second five years).
  • Complete the Improvement in Medical Practice requirement
  • Complete the Professionalism and Professional Standing requirement

MyEMCert Modules:

  • Eight, topic-specific modules (e.g., abdominopelvic presentations)
  • 50 Questions in each module
  • Physicians can select the order in which they take the modules; there is no particular order in which topics must be covered.
  • Three versions of each module available in any given year
  • Notification shortly after the module is submitted
  • 3 attempts each module - If not passed, a different version of the module can be attempted immediately
  • 1 fee for three attempts

This is not meant to be an inclusive guideline regarding the MyEMCert, please refer to the ABEM Website for specific information on applying, credentialing and scheduling for the MyEMCert examination as well as details regarding test and its procedures.
